Kenya's need for leadership

(adapted from an earlier blog)

I guess there is no better way to start this U&I talk than by highlighting my motivation towards this talk cum walk. U&I talk is conceived from my fond conviction that it's the high time that we have leaders in Kenya. The parents of U&I talk are my love for Kenya and my pain from the abuse that Kenyan politician (of course with a few exceptions) have caused on faithful tax payers. I'm sick of the shameless politicians who cannot do their fiducial duties at the very least.

Today marks a day in my life when I will no longer remain silent on issues that hurt me every morning I read and every evening I watch the daily news. It's painful to have watched this country (Kenya) go through pitiful moments of post election violence. We have all watched the Goldenberg scandal, the Anglo leasing, and as I write this, Kenya's finance minister has sold the state owned Grand Regency hotel for a price way below its net realisable value. These are just but tips of iceberg that have ruined this great nation.

I'm only proud of one thing, that's the Kenyan youth! I believe in the great potential that lies in the Kenyan youth. They form the future of this nation. They form that part of our generation that has not yet been contaminated by the infectious diseases of corruption, tribalism and conservatism. My plea to Kenyan youth is that we cannot afford to sit and watch!

As I read Lee Kuan Yew's From Third World to First: The Singapore Story, I believe that Kenya has what it takes to write a similar Kenyan story. But we won't go far unless we have leaders and I mean leaders not politicians. Lee Kuan Yew is a leader.

I pledge my commitment towards this leadership talk and walk. Join me in shaping the future of great Kenya. Feel free to share your thoughts.
